Celsius Heat

According to the latest pole of citizens, you can fool all the people all of the time. By a very wide margin, the public is against the government “bailout of Wall Street.” I use quotes because, if anyone is being bailed out, it is the sinking citizen on main street. You cannot get blood from a turnip nor can you get blood from a corporation like Lehman Brothers or Wachovia Bank. Yes, you may harm the employees, the board of directors and the stock and bond holders of such major companies, but the number of people involved, in such a blood letting, is small in comparison to the average Joe on the street.
The bleeding is from the public at large. You and I are the ones who are going to be harmed if this situation in our banking and credit markets is not addressed by Congressional legislation. We are the ones who will not be able to borrow to buy a car, to build a new home or to start a new business. The CEO’s of these Wall Street Firms and National Banks are insulated. They have been making millions for years. They need a bail out like you need a third nostril.
No, Congress screwed up by not taking the true message to the public. Rather, they, and I refer to the likes of Nancy Pelosi ( D. Calif.) and others, made this a partisan issue, trying to support the candidacy of Barak Obama at a time when these elected fools should have been supporting you and I. Once again, if you want clean government, you have to use the voting booth as a scrub brush.
And when will John McCain and his supporters finally reveal to the public just who is at the basis of this mess? Has anyone ever heard the media discuss the Carter and the Clinton administration’s blocking of proposed Republican regulation of Wall Street and the Banking Industry. Has anyone heard the media discuss how Carter forced the Banking industry into opening up the credit window in order to stop the alleged “redlining” abuse that was going on.
Hello?? It was not abuse. It was smart lending practices. Carter virtually told the Banking and Credit industry to forget the meaning of good credit and loan to anyone who wanted “his American Dream,” – a home, whether they could afford it or not. The housing and credit crisis did not start during the Bush Administration. The abuses of Wall Street are not an aberration of the 1990′s. This began with Jimmy Carter in the 70′s and has fulminated into a full blow barn fire today. Yes, you can fool all the people all the time.
And although the Republicans are anti big government and anti government regulation of business, it was the party on the right that tried to stop the growth of the lending practices which were to destroy our banking and lending systems some years later. Now we are at the mercy of the very people who the Republicans fear the most – our learned and hallowed representatives and senators. No ill respect intended, but they no longer deserve to be Capitalized.
If this crisis has taught us anything, it is that man must live by the law, and laws must be promulgated, in a bipartisan manner, to control the actions of man. That means all men, and wearing a suit and tie to a major wall street firm is not analogous with the terms benign or saintly. These men can be as crooked as the thief who breaks into your home, only more so. They can steal your future. Now we are faced with a crisis when thoughtful legislation should have been passed years ago to stem the tide of this hemorrhage of our financial standing.
Legislation will be passed this week. The markets will return some but not all of their losses. You and I won’t recover fully because many of us have sold out in desperation ( we tend to buy high and sell low when the fear factor is involved), The markets will remain precarious because many of us fear returning to the site of the theft. The federal government will have become more intrusive into our daily lives, with this new legislation, and we will never be as trusting of those who were meant to have our trust. Billions of dollars will again be wasted, with the earmarks tacked onto this new legislation, and those billions of dollars are not there to be wasted on these political hack programs.
One thing is for sure. If the 700 Billion dollar legislation makes you fearful now, just wait for the entitlement legislation recommended and promulgated should Obama win the White House and the Democrats keep control of Congress. If 700 Billion frightens the American Taxpayer, wait for the future costs of a tax and spend regime. if you think Nancy Pelosi is the wicked witch from the West, you have seen nothing yet. She is tame when compared to some new women coming upon the scene in an Obama regime.
When will we learn. Anything done to excess is bad. Moderation is the key to all things that are good for us, and what we are seeing today is the result of the excesses of the past. Blame this all on Bush? Give me a break. The Leninist from the Peanut Farm and his good friend from Arkansas are much more to blame for this as any Wall Street Broker, Firm, Bank or Banker. It’s just that the truth is kept from us by our unbiased media. Well, that is how Pravda works, so CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC and CNN all had a great teacher.
